Bourbon character from the Austin Nichol's barrel is more prominent in this blend, contributing oak-y vanilla and spice. The Blanton's barrel is less potent, but serves to enhance the caramelized flavours of the barleywine component.
This stout portion was the same batch as Event Horizon and Vanilla Gesha Horizon. I thought it would be interesting to blend with barleywine to show how a bit of extra sweetness can amplify certain notes in the base beer. The goal was to elevate the beer, take everything up a notch, and use the barleywine in a complementary way. That's really what blending is all about, finding flavours that work together and figuring out what ratio is best.
I think it was a great success, you'll have to try it and find out for yourself.

Dark brown. Not much head but I didn't really expect any. There's an assertive, refined bourbon aroma, showcasing a stout backdrop. On the palate, the stout sits back and chills, with the barley wine taking over. Sweet sticky, figgy barley wine with brash bourbon accents, and maybe a bit of more bitter chocolate from the stout sliding in there. This is over a year old now, and maybe that's subdued some roast, but in general it's got a lot more bw character.

Bottle, Temporal Tasting
Dark brown colour. Dark chocolate, a bit salty, the alcohol is hot, the sweetness is very low; some dark caramel, light vanilla; but, compared to the Binary Pair B, it doesn't have the same malt flavour, while not offering good Imperial Stout notes either.
Good, hot beer.

330ml shared with Ryan @ Alex's garage. Appearance: muddy brown with a weak head. Aroma: barrel, a bit of weird malts, dark fruits. Taste: along the same lines, inky, noticeable bitterness, moderately sweet. Overall: this one is more clean and elegant than Pair B IMHO, but it still lacks balance being a bit harsh, bitterness and sweetness don't really work together here.

Re-rate: Poured from 330mL bottle. Very dark brown with minimal beige head. Bourbon barrel, feint rum, touch of chocolate. Still prefer B over A, but it's decent. June 12, 2022 (8/4/8/4/15=3.9): Poured from the tap, too cold, had to let it warm up. Tried side by side with Binary B. Dark brown with minimal off white head. Nice bourbon quality with light chocolate notes. Once warmed up, I did prefer B over A by just a hair.

330mL bottle, pours black with a tiny beige head. Aroma is somewhat hot, with boozy bourbon barrels, some iodine, and a touch of roast. Flavour is comparable to the nose, with peaty iodine notes, boozy bourbon, and light roast. Boozy and iodine-heavy, but without accompanying complexity. Reasonably done, but doesn't have the depth or refinement that many top-tier BA imperial stouts/strong ales have.

330 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with little head. Aromas of cinnamon buns, raisins, soft sweet bourbon, chocolate nougat and bready malts. Flavors of oaky sweet bourbon, caramel, rich chocolate, cinnamon, a bit of coconut and oily toasted malts. Warm finish. Full on bourbon but well integrated without overkill. Very good.
