Taking inspiration from our new 'Ohana over in Hawaii, we made this island-themed imperial stout by taking a blend of imperial stouts aged in bourbon barrels, then we added Oahu-Grown small estate vanilla beans, Okinawa black sugar, and Mexican cocoa nibs. The result is a nuanced mix of layered dessert flavors with notes of rich honey and baker’s chocolate. We think you’ll agree that it lives up to its name.

Dark brown. No head. Gorgeous umami, has great dark chocolate, some vanilla, good barrel. Another excellent stout from Modern Times (RIP).

Black colour, no head. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, vanilla, and coffee; intense. Full bodied, sweet, but it doesn't feel excessive, because there is some balance with the roastiness; burnt sugar, caramel, strong vanilla; the cacao is too strong for my liking, providing roastiness, and earthy character too.
Good, but not as much as it was expected.

22oz (thx, Brian S.!) @ Ryan's shared with Alex hoping that allergy effects won't affect my taste, hehe. Appearance: pours like oil, very dark brown with a weak dark beige head. Aroma: American oak, lots of chocolate and vanilla, and some booze. Taste: along the same lines, moderately thick, a bit boozy as well, moderately to highly sweet (but not cloying). Overall: very nice, as usual.

Poured from 650mL bottle. Very dark brown with minimal beige head. Rich chocolate, underlying vanilla, mild bourbon in the background, solid MT offering.

22oz bottle pours out black topped with a small tan head. Nose is sweet chocolate roast malts vanilla rich bourbon barrel. Taste is more of the nice bourbon barrel notes vanilla chocolate coffee.

On tap at Modern Times - Point Loma, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma is decadent, with a luscious amount of vanilla, followed rich bourbon barrels, and cocoa notes. Flavour is complex and rich as hell, with intense vanilla and chocolate upfront, wrapped up in a wonderful bourbon barrel character. So much chocolate and vanilla. Shit is this amazing.

Bottle shared at Peders Long Live & Hop Butcher Event (11/03/2023) - Massive thanks to Jeppe. pours black with a tan head. Dark sweet malty aroma and taste with loads of opulent chocolate goodness, sweet cakey malts with some molasses and toffee like sweetness, full body and great mouthfeel, big rich bourbon character kicking in, beautiful.

Taster @ Modern Times Lomaland Fermentorium, San Diego. Sweet and smooth with massive amounts of vanilla, some chocolate and cocoa, hints of barrel and oak, syrup and toffee. Quite soft and balanced vanilla overdose
