A FARMHOUSE ALE WITH FORAGED LARCH TIPS AGED IN GIN CASKS
Affectionately dubbed “Monty” by the Fair Isle team, we are jazzed to finally share batch two of this special beer with you all. Aged in second-use gin casks from Copperworks and dosed with larch tips, Montgomery doubles down on botanical character with this distinctive foraged ingredient.
Last year’s batch of Montgomery honed in on the distinct lemon balm flavor of young larch needles, and this year, we added even more tips to bring this lemon balm note to the forefront. 7 months in oak provides a nice structure and some balanced softness to the finish.

Bottle. Pours clear golden, medium fizzy white head, some lacing. Aroma is heavy pine needle, bugs, lemon. Flavor follows, light tart, light plus funk. Light body. Neat.

The larch tips and gin cask blend so well, like walking through a spring conifer forest, with hints of pepper and citrus.

A taster shared with Josh, Matt, Phill, and Ryan during FHF WITH priceless Rachel's help (got it back!) in organizing all the mess with glasses. Appearance: hazy blonde with a white head. Aroma: botanicals, juicy. Taste: same, very balanced and juicy. Overall: good one.

Poured from the tap @ Darbys. Hazy blonde gold with small white head. Gin and larch tips with gentle funk. Aroma is very nice. Taste, I think I would have preferred a brighter spruce tip.

750mL bottle sampled at Weathered 2023, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out intense wood tips, light oak, and gin. Flavour is very woody and herbal, with lots of herbal notes, celery-like gin, and a sort of spruce tip character. Very herbal and woody. Not really feeling like this.
