A portion of last years barrel aged stout was conditioned for an additional year in Parkers Heritage heavy char barrels from Heaven Hill. The extra time in barrel has created a beautiful rich complexity and a velvety smooth mouthfeel. This beer has become one of our favorite barreled stouts to date. Cheers!

273 ml can. Pours a dark cola/black with no head. Aromas of bourbon alcohol, charred oak, dark fruit, and roasted malts. Flavors of raisins, figs, dark oak, boozy bourbon, a bit of vanilla, and roasted malts. Just a bit too much booze for me, distracting from what would have been rich flavors. More subtle bourbon barrel would have made this great IMHO.

473mL can, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is full of rich bourbon barrels, light smoke, and medium roast. Flavour is extremely heavy on the charred bourbon, with almost a tartness to it, along with booze. Very boozy and strong, but has a nice bourbon barrel character to it. Intense albeit harsh.

Dark brown. Just a thin head. Deep dark fruitcake aroma. The palate is intense - all those dates and figs and maybe some cherries. Sultanas. Light brown sugar. Vanilla bourbon elements. The base stout gets rounded out so much by the treatments - all harshness is subdued and only the rich flavour notes remain. Low carbo lends a further impression of smoothness. Alcohol splash in the finish, just enough bitterness. This is layered, complex, beautiful stout.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Black colour, no head. Aroma of dark chocolate, light vanilla, light coffee, petrol. Full bodied, some burnt sugar flavour, chocolate, light tar, Bourbon; it's a bit too boozy.
Good, but there's no elegance here; I wouldn't pay the highest price from Backcountry to date for this beer again.

16oz shared with Ryan @ Alex's. Appearance: dark brown with a weak Aroma: sweet, heavy bourbon barrel, slight booze. Taste: along the same lines, lots of charred American oak, and bourbon. Overall: pretty good.

Poured from 473mL can. Very dark brown with minimal beige head. Boozy bourbon, mild chocolate, it's not bad, but prefer Conjuror of Cheap Tricks by a hair. Would prefer a different bourbon barrel.
