DOUBLE BARREL THE SPICE MUST FLOW - an imperial stout aged for 11 months in a Blanton's bourbon barrel, then aged another 7 months in a Brazilian amburana wood barrel. Further conditioned on tonka beans, allspice, clove, cardamom, star anise, and ceylon cinnamon.
This is the next release in the Temporal Void Series, an exploration of strong barrel-aged beers. T.S.M.F is the second and final bottle releasing Sunday, December 18th at noon at @containerbrewing. 13.06% abv. 550 bottles available with a limit of 4 per person. Please BYOBag - ideally cloth and reusable.
As with previous Void sales, this is a single day pop-up release. BUT I have some extra things this time since it's a week before Christmas! A re-up of @ripplesbysam Temporal tie-dyes, two-bottle gift boxes (with your choice of bottles), branded touques, stemless glasses, and some wooden pins, keychains, and coasters (stocking stuffers HELLOđź‘‹)
This is a real fun beer, the second double-barrel-aged beer from the Void Series. If the single drip wax style wasn't obvious, I'm taking inspiration from a brewery I love that makes some really great strong beers - @fremontbrewing.
I've been planning this beer for a long time. It's no secret that I love tonka beans, they've kinda become a bit of a calling card for me over the years. I knew the amburana barrel + tonka would be a smash hit but I thought "why not just throw all the spices at it!?!". After some bench trials I settled on a blend, with different amounts of each.
Star anise was the most tricky - maybe I just hate black liquorice but in the end there was barely any in there. Just a little kiss of liquorice amongst all the other things. The ceylon cinnamon is really delightful. It's that real good "true" cinnamon, all crumbly and layered like a lil' parchment scroll 📜. None of that hard Cassia stuff for me 🙅‍♂️.
I hope you like it! This is one that changes a lot as it warms so make sure you don't drink it too cold!

Pour at Dark Fields of Winter. Pours deep brown. Aroma is very cinnamon forward with notes of anise, all spice, and chocolate. Flavour had a good chocolate base with lots of cinnamon, cardamom, anise, all spice. Smooth mouthfeel with slight carbonation. Really enjoyable beer. Well done.

330mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown, no head. Nose is full of the spices upfront, followed by the amburana, and a hint of bourbon. Flavour is not pleasant—it's dominated by abrasive cardamom, anise and clove upfront, followed by very subdued amburana and bourbon. The spices don't work for me; they're too harsh and mask the barrels. And the base beer is not supportive enough to carry this. Doesn't work for me.

Dark brown, big cinnamon, vanilla and a metric fuckton of amburana. Soft and sweet, very low carbonation. The spices go well here, obviously natural with amburana but also with a base that's getting rich but isn't quite rich. I knew I'd like this, great combination of flavours.

Poured from 330mL bottle @ Weathered 2023. Dark brown with small beige head. A big spice bomb of a beer with the barrels adding a bit of underlying heat. Enjoying this Void series variant.

330 ml bottle. Pours black with no head. Aromas of cinnamon, amburana, anise, vanilla, chocolate nougat, soft bourbon, and slick roasted malts. Flavors of dark chocolate, amburana, cardamom and roasted malts. Tasty, but may be a bit much on the spices and thinned by the ABV.
