So, correct us if we're wrong but we're pretty sure this is Superflux's first-ever West Coast Double IPA (ie, not hazy). Not sure what took us so long*, 'cause this beer is delicious. It's super aromatic, punchy, and quenching. We taste notes of lemon zest, fresh-cut pine, and grapefruit.
*Actually, we're quite sure it was stubbornness, disdain for market trends at the time, and a general fear of fixing what was not broken, and thus, perhaps breaking it. Also, funny story, when we made our VERY FIRST beer as Machine Ales we called it Double Happyness, which was widely panned as a bit weak for a Double IPA. The trouble was, it wasn't a Double IPA. We called it Double Happyness after the name of a store in the neighborhood that had long sat vacant. We learned something about naming beers that day. Which was a good time to do it, being our first beer and all.

Poured from the tap. Near clear gold with small white head. Citrus hops, hint of pith, mild caramel malt, hops are a bit dull.

Pale, slight haze, thin head. Moderate bitterness, the pale malt character is rich, and the hops go in the grapefruit and peach directions.

473mL can, pours a lightly hazy golden with a medium white head. Aroma reveals herbal hops, some resins, bready malt, and a touch of pine. Flavour has a strange hop expression, with sweet orange rind, light pine, some lemon zest, and caramel bready malt. Too herbal, too candied, not great balance. The hop expression just doesn't work at all for me. Turns out they don't know how to brew any kind of IPA.
