Belgian-style Quad aged in Bourbon Barrels

We aged 10°, our classic abbey quadrupel, in better bourbon barrels than we could have ever hoped for and added notes of vanilla and whiskey to an already excellent beer.

On tap at Dageraad. Pours dark brown with small white head. Aroma has a ton of bourbon with a touch of brown sugar. Flavour is also very bourbon forward, but not overpowering. Notes of dark sugar, caramel. Really nice.

Brown colour, no head, flat looking. Aroma of bourbon, spirit, fudge. Flat mouthfeel, full bodied; it has decent malt depth, but hidden behind the curtain of alcohol and bourbon. It ends sweet and boozy. Good, but too much alcohol.

375 ml bottle. Pours a hazy dark brown with little head. Aromas of oaky bourbon, salt, figs, and bready malts. Flavors follow same with less intense bourbon but more alcohol and drier malts. Fairly hot finish. Interesting but not very cohesive.

Dull amber-brown, no head. Slick, lots of umami, like red miso mixed with walnuts and integrated into a barley wine. Unusual brew.

375ml shared with Alex @ 🏡 Appearance: brown with a weak, quickly dissipating beige head. Aroma: American oak, dark fruits, vanilla, some chocolate. Taste: along the same lines, completely flat. Overall: pretty good, some carbonation would be appreciated, though.

Poured from the tap. Light mahogany brown with very minimal beige head. Lots of bourbon without being too boozy, but overpowers the base beer. Still enjoyable because the bourbon barrel is quite nice.

375mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with an amber tinge and a tiny beige head. Aroma is huge on the bourbon barrels upfront, followed by dark sugars and a touch of Belgian yeast — mostly bourbon though. Flavour is full of deep bourbon barrels, followed by dry bready malt, booze, and dry dark dried fruits. Lovely bourbon character permeating the whole thing. Carbonation is nearly flat, which could be increased. Overall, very nice barre character.
