Chardonnay Barrel Aged Barley Wine began life as an English Barleywine, before spending several months in an oak Chardonnay wine barrel, enhancing the malt character with notes of dark fruits like plum, prune, and fig, with hints of vanilla. Post-barrel-aging hopping increases the light fruit notes, which finishes with a soft carbonation.

Poured from 650mL bottle (bottled Mar 2018) . Orangey amber with small off white head. Lots of figs, some dark fruits, light hop bitterness, not much of any chardonnay. Okay.

Amber-brown, hazy, The aroma has a nice winey character, with some datey, figgy barley wine notes. On the palate, it's got a lot of bitterness, some leafy hop, alcohol, and a few balancing sugars. The chardonnay doesn't come through as much on the palate, and I probably would have liked it to. It's just a touch and overpowered by the bitterness.

Bottled in March 2018. 650mL bottle, pours a deep dark reddish mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out plenty of dark dried fruits, gentle buttery Chardonnay, and toffee. Flavour is dry for the style, with lots of toffee, bready malt, and buttery Chardonnay. Quite dry, yet malty and bready toffee finish. Good stuff. --- Beer merged from original tick of Fisticuffs on 09 Dec 2018 at 21:48 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 5 | Flavor - 5 | Texture - 4 | Overall - 5. Original review text: 22 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma is quite murky, with earthy notes, Chardonnay and bready malt. Flavour is rather muted and obscured, with bready malt, some fusel alcohols, and white wine. Not very cohesive or clean. Meh.

Bottle at Black Christmas 2018, bottled March 2018
Strong ale, the barrel is not very clear though, and it doesn't taste like a Barley Wine. Bold, moderately sweet with drier finish.
Ok beer, but not easy to follow the intentions.
