We made Spudman IPA for our good friends at Spud’s Produce Market in Olympia. While this market may be small, it has one of the most diverse beer lineups in town and has been a strong supporter of us since day 1. Oh--the beer! Look for notes of fresh-cut cantaloupe, peaches and berries with a subtle, earthy background from the use of potatoes in the mash, because… duh.

Hazy golden colour. Decent hop aroma, if not very fresh. The mouthfeel is a bit weird, oily and stale; ok bitterness with some hop oils.
Ok beer.

16 ounce can. Pours a mostly clear copper/ orange hue with a small white head. A nice sweet citrus nose. Big marmalade, resin, sweet hops, bready. Not sure if I get potatoes, but the hops are clean and flavorful. Smooth. Easygoing IPA. Good.

Can. Dullish amber, hazy, thin head. The aroma is a bit of a generic hop, and I don't know if I'm getting much hash brown character. On the palate, a mild bitterness, light citrusy hop. Again, not sure I get hash brown. Ends up as an ok IPA, but lacking in brightness.

16 oz can poured, enjoyed at Special Brews. A strange haze here. Unique golden orange pour that could double as a snow globe. Tons of dusty sediment. Oily fizz head. Really interesting IPA here. Has an odd sweetness. Maybe my first advertised potato beer? I swear I taste them. Rich malt, earthy hop bitter background. I love the unique ideas from these guys like this one, and love the "why not?" mentality. Not bad.

16 oz. can, pours a cloudy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out vegetal notes, earthy hops and bready malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with an earthy hop character, vegetal notes, and bready malt. Too vegetal and herbal. The potato maybe is noticeable but it just doesn't work overall as a beer.

16 oz can from Beer Mongers in Portland. Aroma is bready, vaguely fruity, woodsy, Red Vines licorice, wet stone. Pours hazy orange with a thin off white head. Tastes much better than it smells, with light bitterness, herbal, vaguely citrusy hop flavors. It’s like Pac NW IPA had sex with NEIPA and shat out Spudman. Edit: the initial seemingly bland aroma really opened up after sitting for a bit, becoming more assertive and interesting, making me raise my score a bit. I can imagine potatoes in this if I really look for it, but would never guess that without seeing the can.
