Hazy West Coast Pale Ale
Dobis is one of our most beloved pale ales that starts with Citra and finishes with even more Citra!
This single hopped pale ale uses copious amounts of Citra hops to achieve a complex tasting experience. The Scottish Golden Promise malt presents a graham cracker like base for the Citra which infuses the brew with aromas of passion fruit, mango and peach and flavors of grapefruit rind and spice.

Tap at CBC2015. Slightly hazy yellow color, small white head. Loads of citrus and gooseberry in the nose - typical Citra. Medium-bodied. Citrus, gooseberry bush in the flavor. One of my favourite hops is always good but as a single hop maybe a bit one-dimensional.

The beer is orangey yellow. Fairly hazy but still transparent. Medium white head. Moderate lacing, little bubbles, etc. The aroma is milder than expected but there’s still plenty of Citra flavor. Tangerine, pineapple, orange, mango. Mild but pleasant crackery malt background. Taste is dry and lightly bitter. Sweet hoppiness. A bit more bitterness in the finish. Lots of pineapple. Very nice. Light mouthfeel. Tasty stuff.

Cloudy bronze appearance. Interesting nose. Like the most fresh strawberries and citrus and juicy oranges. Taste is good. A strange sweet foot by the foot candy taste. Slightly acidic and a minor dank ness comes through at the finish Creamy mouthfeel

On tap at Hog’s Apothecary. Aroma has a medium light malt character with quite a bit of cracker notes, but also a bit of toasted bread and nuts. (Munich or Vienna malt?) Medium citrus character that doesn’t overwhelm the malt notes. Light tropical fruit character. Pours a pale, cloudy, golden orange with a small, thin white head that does good retention. Medium lacing and faint legs. Flavor is similar to the aroma with a nice malt presence. Medium high bitterness. Medium high citrus notes with some light tropical finish. Light sweetness and a bit of stickiness. Finish has a light lingering bitterness with moderate cracker and light toasted bread notes. Mouthful is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a pretty enjoyable beer, but I think I was expecting something a bit hoppier in the aroma. I’m glad the malt character gets to show through but I feel it might be a bit strong in the aroma.
