22/IX/18 - sample @ Borefts Bierfestival Day 2, BB: n/a - (2018-1463) Thanks to the international Ratebeer crew for sharing today's beers!

Clear dark brown to almost black beer, no head. Aroma: lovely stuff going on here, nice roast, chocolate, dried fruits, caramel, sweetish impression. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: alcohol, very alcoholic! Bitter, a very harsh roast, some tannins, coffee, charcoal. Aftertaste: bitter, dry, alcohol, dried fruits, hoppy, more roasted notes, a bit medicinal. Not as great as I would have hoped from the smell...

0.33 l bottle from 'Het Biermoment', best before October 2019. Pitch black with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty aroma of nougat, coffee, hazelnut and hints of dark fruits. Quite sweet, malty, gently roasty taste of nougat, mocca, licorice, some hazelnut and traces of dark fruits, followed by long, rather roasty-bitter, earthy and maybe minimally woody finish. Medium to full body, almost creamy mouthfeel, average carbonation. Simple but tasty RIS, don't get too much of the oak though.

Bottle @ home. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized light brown colored head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, dry dark roast. Taste malts, roasted malts, dry, very bitter, wood. Ok but a bit one dimensional.

33cl Bottle from Vonk. Black colour, beige head. Aroma of fresh oak, roasted malts, ointment, light vinous, some red fruits. Flavour is roasted malts, liquorice, some oak, Nivea ointment, ink, just light fruity, bitter finish. Medium to full bodied, smooth mouthfeel. It's good, especially considering the price (€3.50), but lacks the wow-factor.

33cl bottle
Black color, tan head with medium retention, some lacing. Aroma has notes of roasted malts, black ripe fruit, mainly ripe plums, slightly caramel. Flavor is slightly sweet, perhaps some cloying, light coffee, light roasty and some wooden hints. Oily and creamy mouthfeel, light roasty with some sweet notes.
