Friends, just in time for the autumn cold snap, we have Three Black Crows Old Ale ready.
The aroma of dried fruit with a hint of molasses and biscuits reminded of the famous British Christmas cake. So we named the beer in the manner of old English pubs. The imagination draws pictures of a slightly gloomy and prim London of the Victorian era, with stagecoaches, the foggy Thames, gothic prose and opium smoking rooms. It's strong and rich. It will warm you up if you feel cold or soaked in the rain.

330 ml slimline can, as Varvar Three Black Crows Old Ale, from Left Field Beer, England. ABV is 7.7%. Dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Distinct aroma of molasses, caramel and brown sugar, also notes of dark dried fruits. The flavour is sweet (but not as much as I feared), with the same elements as the aroma, also hints of spices, oak and tobacco.

Hazy dark brown, stable, foamy, tan head. Aroma of Coca-Cola, toasted almond, cold coffee, caramel, prune, overripe melon, dried banana, cough syrup, sweet whisky. Taste has sweet prune, cherry & banana in a caramelly, syrupy, almondy malt body, strengthening the herbal Coca-Cola effect. Herbal hops in the finish, lingering dried fruits, syrup and soft sweet whisky-like alcohol. Medium body, syrupy texture, soft carbonation. Hm, this started off well but didn't improve when warming up (contrary to what you'd expect from an Old Ale), turning a bit artificial.

330ml slim can, sold to me by djoeye. Shared at a rating session with Finn. Deep reddish-brown body, bubbles on the surface, lacing rings down the glass. Inviting roasted malty aromas, mid-dry. Mixed taste of dried fruits, including prunes and raisin, added by mid-sweet malts. Prolonged, rounded ending, semi sweet. Fine bodied. Like it, sipper qualities. (Tromsø, 18.09.2025).

Klare bräunlich rötliche Farbe mit weißer Schaumkrone. Malziger, leicht röstmalziger Geruch. Geschmacklich malzig, leicht röstmalzig mit Karamell. Hohe Süße mit leichter Bitterkeit, mittlerer Körper mit spürbarer Kohlensäure.

Die 3 Schwarzen Raben 🐦⬛ 🐦⬛ 🐦⬛ sind ein Symbol für aufziehendes Unheil...mal schauen was es mit diesem mystischen Bier auf sich hat. Mit dem Stil des Old Ale 👴habe ich bislang keine Erfahrung. Es wirkt ein wenig wie ein Bock mit urigen, holzigen 🪵 Zwickl-Noten. Recht schwer und tief 🕳️, aber auch angenehm malzig-aromatisch. Kein einfaches Bier, aber durchaus interessant.
