Cask @ Hopwood Arms, Middleton. Reddish-brown with a small burnt roasted nose and texture with a considerable chocolate aftertaste.

Cask at the Shakespeares Head, Holborn, 30/12/13. Clear dark amber/chestnut brown with a good sized off white head that retains well, good lacing ensues. Nose is thin, light Burton snatch eggfect, bready malt, fruit. Taste doesn’t run a whole lot deeper, bready malts, berry fruit, light spice, straw. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, light bitterings in the finale. Mediocre bitter.

Cask at the Catherine Wheel (JDW), Henley. Dark amber with a thin cream head; sweet, malty aroma; quite tart in the mouth wth some slightly sour red fruit; the finish is sweeter with a lingering raspberry perfume. No sign of the molasses, spice or chocolate that was promised.
