A single hopped stout using the intriguing Phoenix, an unusual British hop that gives notes of molasses, Demerara sugar, bitter chocolate and warm spices. We couldn’t resist pairing it with a dark, roasty malt bill to create a bold and distinctive beer.

Bottle - Roast malts and some horse. Dark brown with a decent brown head. Herbal and roast. Just not appealing.

Bottle shared at RBESG 2014. It pours near black with a thick tan head. The nose is earthy, rich roast, coffee, dark chocolate , salted caramel and mild spice. The taste is rich, roasty, earth, coffee, decent bitterness, light pepper, charred wood, dark chocolate with a dry finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Nice chocolate and coffee. Good mouth-feel.

Bottle from Corks of North Street. Opaque and almost black in colour, with a big and billowy beige head. Aroma of muscovado sugar, dark fruits and plan chocolate. Flavour of roasted malts, more fruity sweetness and chocolate, leading to a slightly dry finish. Very good.
