Keg at the Old Fountain - London. Pours black with a creamy, beige head. Sturdy roasted Mal’s in the nose, some baking cocoa, charred marshmallows. Light to medium sweet flavour with ample scorched malts, moderate earthy bitterness, more bittersweet cocoa, some woody dryness. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Somewhat dry to finish, with further ashy roast, baking cocoa, scorched earth. A solid offering.

Cask at the Prince Arthur (JDW), Fleet. An attractive, glossy black pour with a thin tan head; restrained chocolate aroma; rich and smooth in the mouth with well toasted grains and a chocolate taste, but absolutely no sweetness; an earthy bitterness is followed by just a touch of sweetness and some milk chocolate. Deeply satisfying.
