For this version we partnered with Radius Coffee and used Byron Corrales coffee beans from Matagalpa Nicaragua. The stout is round and balanced with smooth roasted notes and layers of flavour. The coffee brings nutty notes of milk chocolate and plum.
We used a different process of introducing the coffee to the beer with the goal of promoting a round coffee character without astringency or bitterness and we are very happy with the result.

Nitro pour. Thick head, quite black. Heavy coffee aroma with some dark chocolate. It’s pretty intense…a fair bit shows through the nitro. A touch of fruitiness emerges, but otherwise that chocolate and coffee blast takes centre stage.

473 ml can. Pours black with moderate fizzy tan head. Aromas of fruity black coffee, cola, root beer, and roasted malts. Flavors of chalky black coffee, a bit of cream, dry dark chocolate and sweet roasted malts.

Poured from 473mL can (pkg 12-13-2024). Black with beige head. Coffee, light roast, fruity coffee bean acidity with some overextraction. Weird fruity sweetness that throws things off a bit. Okay, prefer the other Drip series offerings, maybe it's the beans they use or maybe it's overboiling in order to get a bigger flavour, but it doesn't help the coffee bean addition.

6oz pour at the brewery. Pours deep brown with a tan head. Tons of cocoa powder and lactose on the nose. Flavour has more roast coming through, more of the coffee, though there's still a fair amount of cocoa powder coming through that cheapens it. Body is reasonable, erring on the thick side. Disappointing, given the quality of previous beer in the Drip series.

On tap at Superflux, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is pretty soft, with gentle earthy notes and a touch of coffee. Flavour is bold, with lots of coffee, some bitter cocoa, light roast, and a metallic tinge. Regular Drip is surprisingly bolder and better balanced; not sure what didnt quite work here, as the body isnt as roasty and doesnt seem as well-balanced. Its pleasant but I expected better.
