In 1938 the brewery was famous for being the first in the world to use Oysters as part of the brewing process. In this new recipe we’ve used a variety of flavoursome malts, including a good dose of oats. Fresh wild Maldon oysters are then added to the boil to add a subtle extra complexity to the taste of this stout. CAMRA Champion Beer of London ‘Stout’ winner & ‘Overall’ runner-up.

Old rating from 11-12-15 - 330ml bottle brought back from London. Poured in Jersey, it's black with a small beige head. Aromas is of oyster & malted oat hops. Tastes of oysters as well as coffee, oats, caramel & toffee with a dry malty aftertaste. This one I enjoyed.

Bottle (from Ales by Mail). Pitch black colour with a mediumsized foamy brown head. Aroma is ashes, some mild coffee, chocolate and mild toasted tones. Flavour is ashy, some slight chocolate, coffee, roasted notes with mild wooden and some dark berries to it. More a porter, than a stout imho, but still very drinkable.
