In 1938 the brewery was famous for being the first in the world to use Oysters as part of the brewing process. In this new recipe we’ve used a variety of flavoursome malts, including a good dose of oats. Fresh wild Maldon oysters are then added to the boil to add a subtle extra complexity to the taste of this stout. CAMRA Champion Beer of London ‘Stout’ winner & ‘Overall’ runner-up.

Cask(@The brewpub): Literally black, firm tanned head; moderate dry toasty nose, ashy too, some lonely dried fruits underneath; mild to moderate dry bitter flavour with a mild acidity, pretty light bodied; slightly lingering sourish-ashy finish. Good, but not great…

Shared 330 ml bottle at local tasting. Dark brown colour, nearly black. Low beige head. "Salty" and roasty dryish aroma, notes of sea water and coffee. Low carbonation. Dry roasty flavour, distinct notes of coffee and bittering hops. Salty hints. A bit one-dimensional but okay.
