Keg at the brewery. It pours darkest brown with a small, bubbly beige head. The nose is toasty, roasted malt, wheat, earth, blackcurrant, candy, jam and coffee. The taste is bitter-sweet, toasty, spice, pepper, coffee, mild acidity, light bitterness, berry and jam with a dry finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Black wheat IPA perhaps? Decent.

Draft at the brewery taproom. Pours clear brown with a fine, creamy off-white head. Toasty wheat bread on the nose, some burnt grains, earth, cocoa. Light sweet flavor with a hard, bitter cocoa and scorched earth edge, moderate roast, old raisins, understated wheat character. Light to medium bodied withfine to average carbonation. Fairly cohesive on the finish with lingering charred malts, burnt flaked wheat, earth and baking cocoa bitterness. It’s a novel concept for a beer and the execution is sound.
