Another epic blend of beers not widely seen out side our tasting bar. The base for Track #4 starts off as two freshly emptied barrels which were to be part of our Veritas 009 blend. To these barrels we have married two French Oak red wine barrels that have been harboring Hot Rocks Lager for nearly two years. The base beer sports a deep black color with crimson highlights. Flavors of leather, tobacco and a wine like jammy quality were developed as the base beer.
The addition of Hot Rocks Lager aged in Wine barrels brings a strain of Brettanomyces not normally found in our beers (wine strain we found in the barrels as we did not inoculate them here at the brewery). As is our hope for all these blends, the sum of all the parts has yielded great results. Perhaps one of the more subtle yet harmonious blends to date for our brewers, this one promises to deliver another great Lost Abbey experience.

Bottle bought through Drikkeriget. Pours murky blackish brown with a very small pale mocha head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is slightly malty, slightly fruity and heavy woody with roasted malts, dark bread, vanilla, lemon juice, grapes, hay, dry soil, leather, vinegar and lemon zest. Taste is sweet, very tiny sour, slightly bitter, malty and woody. Mouthfeel is round, astringent, tiny dry, boozy and medium bodied. Finish is sweet, very tiny sour and bitter with roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, charred wood, grapes, ash and alcohol. Weird one. Sour stout that’s not really sour. Heavy boozy though and very rough around the edges even at this age. --- Beer merged from original tick of Track #4: Sympathy for the Devil on 15 Oct 2016 at 19:35 - Score: 6. 375 mL bottlw, shared by Tcon. Huge thanks for the gem! Pours a dark reddish brown pour with a thin head. Soft dark fruit aroma. Semi sour mixed verry, slightest hint of chocolate, and a mixed fruit finish. Some banana? Very unique beer. Sourness 5/10. Pretty good.

Bottle. A flat one, dark brown in color and clear. The aroma is sourish and lightly vinegarish, with oak notes, leather, tobacco and roasted malts. Some alcohol too, which isn’t surprising. Rather flat on the palate, full-bodied and warming, quite dry. Roasted malts, some chocolate hints, leather and some vinegar. Lasting finish that contains enough warmth to really calm you down. Pretty wonderful this one, vinous and tasteful. Could use some carbonation, else it’s well worth a retry. Well, it is anyway. 141220
