Bottle. A dark brown beer with a small, beige head. Unclear. The aroma is roasted tending towards burnt, with some charcoal and dried fruits. Prunes and dried figs. Some sweetness in the flavor, but it’s actually quite dry. Roasted malts, charcoal and dark dried fruits. Full body and a pleasant carbonation level. Lasting roasted and lightly burnt finish with some charcoal and prunes. A bit burnt for my likings, but a fine beer anyway. 141220

A strongish stout from the Land of the Long Goodbye after which I will presumably require a Bug Sleep. I’ll stop now. Small growler. Dark brown with a lovely beige head that lasts well. Aroma of sticky bread crusts, milk chocolate, pine, slight but vibrant tropical fruit notes. Was going to say surprisingly vibrant, but they’re all over the taste, pushing mocha and bread into the background. Sweet with quite a lot of piney bitterness at the end. Maybe a bit too much, really. Some Sichaun pepper too. Tasty but not entirely harmonious.

Bottle shared by Travlr at the Baltimore Late Late Summer Gathering, 9/14/13. Pours a dark brown color with a dark brown head. Decent head retention. Aroma of sweet malts, roast, nuts, anise, chocolate. The taste is chocolate, dark fruits, roast, herbal notes, anise. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness. Interesting, a bit different.
