Bottle. Next to black this one, clear-looking, and with a small, dense, dark beige head. Some curtains. The aroma is a bit one dimensional, but the coffee scent is lovely, rich and complex, with mocha, dark chocolate, raisins, prunes notes and a faint touch of peanut butter and cellar. The last two is a bit surprising, but after smelling the beer several times while drinking it, I’m sure that’s what I’m detecting. The flavor lacks a bit of the same complexity, but it’s sure nice anyway. Some bitterness of the roasted malts and coffee kind shows up, it’s dry and very soft and smooth on the palate, with perhaps a bit too much coffee bitterness towards the very end. A bit thin body too I think, but it’s so smooth and soft it still deserves a four. Definitely one of the best beers I’ve had from Austmann, not a beer I can drink a lot of, but the occasional bottle and some quality dark chocolate or pralines might happen. 140918

Flaske 330ml fra Vinmonopolet i Tromsdalen. Kullsort. Bra mokkafarget skum som daler sakte. (Skummet framprovosert ved veldig høy kvelling). Voldsom kaffearoma. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken toner kaffepreget litt noe ned. Sjokolade dukker opp. Bra - men litt uvariert.

330ml bottle, batch 159, from Vinmonopolet Langnes. Almost jet black body. Moderate tan-coloured head with a solid stand. Fragile lacing. Coffee grounds on the nose. The taste profile brings dark chocolate, cold coffee, and dark fruits. Lingering roasted bitter ending. Natural carbonated.Medium bodied. Pleasing (Tromsø 13.09.2014).

Complete black with almost no head. Well to good first start. But the rest is more important. Armoa is easy to describe here. COFFEE! Not to often the coffee aroma is SO strong. Maybe some chocolate after a while also. A bit thin body for a porter at 6%. Strange. Maybe it feels so because it has an almost flat carbonation. Tad sweet and an ok bitterness. Oily texture. Flavor is more coffee than my morning coffee. Probably a bit one dimensional. Some chocolate after it got warmer. Good or bad….hmmm. Maybe ok with some more carbonation and a bit thicker body.

Bottle shared with Holmen1 on board Fridtjofen 08.09.14. Black. Small beige head. Aroma of coffee and freshly ground coffe beans. Also with dark chocolate, vanilla and tobacco box. Similar taste, with even more bitter dark chocolate. Quite bitter aftertaste. A bit waterish. No carbonation.

Flaske fra Vinmonopolet Straensenteret, delt med skibsrederen ombord på Fridtjofen: nesten ikke skum. Deilig kaffearoma med mørk karamell og mørk sjokolade + et vaniljestreif. Flat i munnen. Behagelig kaffebitterhet med litt solbærsyre, kort ettersmak. Savner karbonering.
