Bottle from Trafalgar Wines, Brighton. Black pour, no head. Smoke, dark fruit, coffee, dark chocolate, licorice aroma. More smoke in the flavour with bags of dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, licorice in the flavour. Smooth-sweet roasty finish. Very tasty, really enjoyed this one.

Quarter at BrewDog, Clapham Juntion. 05/08/16. Definate coffee aroma - so that’s a tick. Deep and dark but not a geat head. Interesting - reminds me of a coffwe I’ve had sitting around, but with a boozy kick. A sweet edge. It’s a coffee and vanilla porter and, yeah, complies with the description.

Keg at The Rake and BrewDog Clapham Junction. It pours jet black with a decent tan head (akin to a coffee crema). The aroma is rich, unctuous, roasted malts, intense espresso coffee, dark chocolaty and a touch of vanilla. The taste is rich roasted malt, bitter-sweet character, plenty of espresso coffee,dark chocolate gateaux, mild vanilla sweetness and toffee with a smooth finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation.Well judged balance of flavour and alcohol. Works well.

1/3 pint at Brewdog Dundee pours a murky black with some creamy, ringing tan head. Nose is very nice, coffee and licorice and molasses, a touch cakey, a little cola, but mostly just fragrant coffee bean. I like the flavor a bit less, the overwhelming adjuncts (licorice and molasses) really overtake the coffee, too much chocolate too. Don’t really get much vanilla anywhere. Finishes sweet and a touch sticky.

Bottle. Black body with a thin tan head that disappears almost instantly. No lacing. Aroma of black chocolate, sea salt, vanilla pod and Marmite. Flavour of blackcurrant, burnt malt, coffee and nuts. Dry finish. Thin body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. It’s ugly and thin but there’s a good beer in there - lots of aroma and interesting flavour.

Dark black... Thin tan head... Soft sweet coffee.. Sweet caramel chocolate roast malts nose.. Dark coffee.. Massive vanilla... Heavy coffee chocolate roast malts... Little cold.. And tiny bit thiner/fizzier than id like but nice 3.8

Bottle thanks to the brewery. Appearance - opaque black with a thin but attractive head. Nose - dry, dry green pepper or even seaweed. Wood and dark chocolate. Taste - more chocolate with a dry tannic note still. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry and balanced finish. Overall - this is good.
