Draft at a fest in Otsu. Nagahama Chestnut Ale 5% 24 IBU A slightly spicy golden ale with nutty earthy chestnut notes. Alright.

Tap was much richer, clearer, and altogether cleaner and better than the bottle. More chestnut, no off flavors, and not as muddy looking. Bottle: 6/2/6/3/3=3.0. Weird nose. Some chestnut, for sure, nutty, grainy, caramel, corn. Quite savory. Muddy pale brown with lace. Looks quite unappetizing. Somewhat sweet, chestnut or even marron creme notes, also a graininess that isn't very nice, nutty, chocolate, caramel, bit of corn. Might be DMS, but it's cold and the chestnuts nearly hide it. Not bad and surely a bit interesting, but not really well executed either. They do have a funky yeast character to their beers, and that is here too, with some dustiness and a bitter finish that isn't from hops.
