Murky brown beer, decent tan head very quickly fizzes out to nothing. Smells of fruit with a good maltiness too. Flavour has some tangy berries up front, but there's toasty malt again in the taste, a bit of mellow dark-ish chocolate. Not complex flavours but nicely balanced and very drinkable. Very solid.

Bottle courtesy of KL. Hitachino Chocolate Berry Ale 6% A deep ruddy brown that was almost black in certain lights with no foam. It had a big cacao and mild cherry aroma. Medium bodied & very effervescent carbonation. The taste was a big punch of cherry up front and soft cacao in the finish. I’m pretty sure this was a Valentine’s release. It fits the mold, it was well balanced and I’d say is a good example of the style.

Bottle, mail order from the brewery. Cherry and berry in the nose, chocolate, caramel. No roasted malt or barley noticeable. Black with e thick, low head. Nice fruit flavor, light touch of dark chocolate. Fruity but not overly sweet, with a nice dry finish. Pretty light, and crisp. Enjoyable. Not as decadent as expected but in a time of undrinkably sweet pastry beers, this was welcome.
