75 cl. bottle shared with Suus, Hilde and Brent @ Alex and Suus. Hazy yellow with a white head. Yeasty fruity aroma with some whisky. Taste is sweet with a medium bitter finish. Throughout it all the whisky is present, in aroma, taste and finish without being too dominant. Very pleasant barrel aged tripel.

Sample at ZBF 2018, thanks Belgian RB table.

Bomber from Fontana, Sint-Niklaas. Medium thick, snow white, stable head lacing in 'dots' over an initially lightly hazy, peach blonde beer with ochre-ish hue, misty with sediment. Aroma of banana, cold potato mash, tulips, cream, camomile, bubblegum, overripe pineapple, apple peel, yellow raisins, something vaguely vanilla-ish, pear and indeed a whiff of whisky. Sweet onset, strong banana ester, apricot, pineapple, sourish touch, a tinge of green plums, medium carbonation, supple and smooth, bit creamy mouthfeel. Pleasant bready malt sweetishness, honeyish sugariness on top, tad caramelly, floral and little bit grassy, earthy hop bitterness in the finish, drenched in a long, warming but not astringent, quite subtly whisky-flavoured alcohol effect. Update of what is basically a sweet Belgian tripel, but a good one at that, this is precisely wat Het Nest is really good at. Enjoyed this one. --- Beer merged from original tick of SchuppenBoer - Belgian Owl Whiskey Barrel Aged on 01 Dec 2021 at 12:47 - Score: Appearance - 7 | Aroma - 5.5 | Flavor - 6.5 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7. Original review text: Whisky barrel aged version of Het Nest's standard tripel, allegedly close to a formidable 15% in ABV... Egg-white, regularly shaped, bit creamily textured, slowly breaking and eventually disappearing head on an immediately cloudy peach blonde beer with slight "off-orangey" tinge. Aroma of freshly cut apples and soggy apple cake, ripe pear, banana, sugar loaf, indeed some fruity and sweetish whisky (Oban), honey, Paschka (sweet cheese spread), some wet wood but very subtle, canned peaches, apricot jam, hint of dried bitter plants faraway in the background, weird hint of sweaty feet. Sweet onset, banana, canned peach and pear, medium carb, full and smooth body; lots and lots of residual, honeyish sugariness over a slick bready and very lightly caramelized malt sweet core, apple cake aspect continuing throughout, ending with a light herbal note (even something very faintly eucalyptus-like) and a warming, eventually only briefly and lightly astringent booziness, only distantly reminiscent of whisky. The sweetness, meanwhile, stays around and even sticks a bit in the end. Not my cup of tea, way too sweet and boozy, but admittedly better than expected; as someone hinted at below, the drinkability of this beer is such that I very strongly doubt this beer being as strong as the brewery claims... --- Beer merged from original tick of SchuppenBoer - Wine Barrel Aged on 28 Feb 2017 at 13:58 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 6.5. Original review text: New variation on Nest’s Schuppenboer theme, bottle shared at RBBWG 2017. Frothy, snow white, cobweb-lacing, stable head, hazy golden robe with ochre tinge. Aroma of banana, sweet white wine, soggy cerelas, gooseberry, quite obtrusive DMS (cooked white cabbage) bothering me, pineapple, cooked turnip, pear, rhubarb, wet oak somewhere, white port, grape peel, grass. Fruity, mildly estery onset, peach, pear, pineapple, moderate banana ester, sourish berries underneath, smooth and lightly creamy, cereally malt middle, tad bready, sweet white wine flavors taking over in the end with grapey tartness but softly so, warming Kirsch-like alcohol, some pleasant drying woodiness. Very pleasant taste profile, but too bad for the DMS in the nose.
