Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of joergen. Pours a cloudy orangey brown. with a beige head. Hard roasted malt in the nose. Solid body, hard roasted malt, some ashes and a whiff of smoke. There’s some dark fruit and vanilla in there too. Discreet bitterness in the finish, but quite some alcohol. A very solid and well-crafted brew. 200710

Bottle, at Bar & Cigar. An oily pour leaves a minimal head over the very dark brown body. The aroma has a balsamic vinegar style acidity, well balanced with sweet, sugary malts giving some licorice. Banana, roasted malts and alcohol too. The flavor is sweet with an acidic touch, roasted malts, alcohol, salty licorice and a hint of fruits. Quite low on bitterness, and with a roasted and warming finish. Full-bodied, oily and warming on the palate, nicely carbonated. A wonderfully integrated set of aromas and flavors in this one, well suited for an hour or more in your favorite chair. 100312

500 ml bottle, batch #262, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Also sampled at Håndverkerstuene. ABV is 7.5%. IBU 25, EBC 64. Black colour, moderate tan head. The "perfumed" aroma has notes of ripe dark fruits, woodwork, chocolate and mild coffee, hints of smoke. The flavour is well rounded and mellow for its strength, notes of dark malts with only a slight roastiness, hints of prunes, dark chocolate and mild coffee, moderate hops and a touch of smoke and juniper in the finish. Very drinkable. I wouldn’t mind having this served in my "gravøl", but as I won’t be able to sample it there myself, I’d better drink some more now!

500ml bottle, batch No. 262, shared with KnutAlbert. Shining black surface on top of an inky black body with a dark brown shade. Prominent smell of earthy malts with a touch of dark fruits. Dark fruits and berries in flavour overlaid by mid-sweet malts, partially roasted. Hints of liquorice, too. Bitter edge to the finish. Woody dryness on the swallow. Medium bodied. Good, in fact, one of the best from the brewery so far (Håndverkerstuene, Oslo 19.03.2010).

Bottled. A black beer with an off-white head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, soy sauce, and herbs, as well as lighter notes of licorice and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, herbs, and soy sauce, as well as lighter notes of licorice, wood, and star anise, leading to a dry roasted finish. The body is light.

Medium beige head does not last. Opaque black body goes dark brown at edges. Roasty earthy fruity aroma with notes of chocolate, peas, smoke, and alcohol. Rich, complex and harmonic. Dry-sweet earthy peas and chocolate taste with fruity oily roasty notes. Fullish body. Mild mouthfeel. Dry earthy peas and alcohol aftertaste with chocolate notes. It’s really dominated by the earthy chocolate and alcohol taste when you drink more of it. Excellent, unusual, and highly drinkable. (0.5l bottle at Håndverkerstuene, Oslo. Batch #262.)
