8th 4-oz. taster for the night, which makes me temporarily co-mayor! Opaque brownish-black color. Still some light foam in the glass after it’s sat for a few minutes. Smell is… well, it’s heavier than I like of the plastic Band-Aid smell of a Schlenkerla smoked beer than I would like. But that’s the risk you run when making a smoked beer, especially a malty one. Now, the taste brings in more of the familiar Gouda cheese rind and smoked ham. But it’s still a bit distracting. People who are bigger smoked beer fans than I am will probably score it higher, and I say go right on ahead. I was happy enough with every other pour in the place.

Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a near clear deep brown with a gray head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of cured meat, peat and smoke with underlying roasted malts. Flavor begins with peat and smoke that mellow in to a dry finish with roasted malts and coffee.
