A deep dark brown, big bold ale with a warm spicy aroma. Full flavour with a bit of toffee, cinnamon, a little punch from the alcohol, and a nice bitter finish. Not super-filtered, which means a bit of yeasty goodness that adds to the whole package.

Bouteille. [notes 2005]

Hazy scotch amber ale with a light off white head. Light prunes and ginger in aroma with yeasty notes. Sweet malt, with herbal noted, light phenolic compounds, and medium bodied. This beer is past its prime. Merci, JM.

Spiced malt nose. Whatever flavor there may be is covered by the spice, and the alcohol heat --- Beer merged from original tick of Tree Spiced Mid-Winter Ale on 22 Sep 2006 at 18:01 - Score: Appearance - 4 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 5 | Texture - 4 | Overall - 5. Smells fine, but man all I can taste is ginger. ........................... --- Beer merged from original tick of Tree Spiced Mid-Winter Ale on 06 Nov 2005 at 03:36 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6.5. Original review text: Now here’s a blast from the past. After retiring their Spiced Porter, they’ve resurrected their Spiced Midwinter Ale, which they used to brew in the late 90s. Reddish dark amber colour. The aroma hints at ginger, nutmeg and caramelly malts. The flavour is certainly festive, with light cinnamon and nutmeg notes balancing off a simple caramel malt base, leading to a lightly gingery finish. Kind of timid overall, this could use a more complex grain bill and one of those really earthy, rustic English yeasts to give it a bit more life.
