A classic, smooth English porter – rich dark ruby coloured ale with undertones of coffee and molasses, a hint of aromatic vanilla.

22/8/2025. Cask at the 46th Peterborough Beer Festival. Good pour. Nice ashy, chocolate, roasted aroma. Lacked body but otherwise good.

Not black like its name, but getting there. A roasted malt porter at an easy strength and texture to match. Vanilla best in aftertaste.

Finally – a review in English ! On tap at Crewe Dog, Crewe (it appears to be a regular). Pours a dark reddish-brown with a small cream head. Hard to detect any aroma – just vague maltiness. In the mouth roast malts and dark fruits are to the fore. There’s also some liquorice and hints of coffee. Texture is somewhat watery, and the finish is fruity. It’s OK, but a bit disappointing really.
