On tap at Khyber Pass in Philly. Pours a murky, deep brown/black with some fluffy, off white head. Nose is very approachable, nutty and toasty, some burnt bread, hints of under roasted coffee, cracker, brown sugar but clear pine and soap too. Flavor has chewy grains, burnt caramel, toast, big pine and soap, dried citrus peel. Full, roasty, bitter finish. Very nice.

Bottle. A black one, more or less, topped by a dense, finger-thick dark beige head. Licorice, roasted malts, alcohol, some charcoal and a touch of piney hops in the aroma. It’s full-bodied, semi-dry and with a nice carbonation level. Roasted malts, charcoal notes, bitterness and pine cones. Some licorice. Warming too. Lasting finish with all the flavors known from the initial flavor. Too much charcoal in this one, and it’s too warming. 150711

Mørk brun klar med lavt beige skum. Lukter mørke frukter, noe portvin og salt lakris. Smaker salt og noe fruktighet.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Dark brown body with a thin beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of liquorice, meaty malts, sweat and chocolate sponge. Flavour of rum, underripe plum and a hint of dark chocolate. Very dry. Thin body with a watery, slightly oily texture. Soft fizz. Bizarre aroma. Doesn’t come together for me at all.
