Heavy, Scottish 80 Shilling. - Nobody could ever categorise the writings of Adam Smith, the father of modern economics, as light so we felt it appropriate to name our own Scottish “heavy” after his theory on the market mechanism. Using traditional old Edinburgh yeast alongside a big malt bill with classic English hops. Full bodied with balanced warm roasted flavours leading to notes of sweet caramel, toffee and dried fruit. Recently described as "nostalgia in a glass."

Ayrshire Coastal Walking Mini Break Beer#11. Dark clear amber in colour, edging towards brown. Traditional brew, fairly malty, quite hoppy too, with the former having the edge.

Panda at home, thanks to Graham Grumbo, 29/05/2025.
Clear chestnut brown topped with a light beige cap that thins to a swirl.
Nose is stewed fruits, biscuit, herb, grains, toffee.
Taste comprises fruit rinds, biscuit, hedgerow, brown bread.
Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close.
Passable for the style ... a little thin and watery overall.

3/5/2025. Bottle from Beer Without Borders. Pours clear bright bronze brown with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma is toffee, malty, biscuit, fruity, leafy, berries, raisins. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Moderate body, foamy carbonation. Nice but too carbonated.

Chrimbo pressie from the wife. Clear, or should that be opaque, chestnut. Foamy off-white head is somewhat translucent. Aroma combines berries with caramel. Gluey. Flavourwise we have a sharp berry tang that cuts through but doesn't overshadow caramel and some grainy notes. Latterly develops some spice. Light. Thin to slick. Soft carbonation with some lazy fizz. It's fine. Decent on a cold night but not particularly exciting.

500ml bottle [courtesy of Grumbo; new brewery, new region - thanks a lot, Graham!]. Opalescent, auburn colour with ruby shimmer and huge, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, dirty white head. Minimally toasty, nutty, malty and yeasty fruity, minimally floral, hoppy aroma, notes of red and blue berries, blueberry jam. Taste is minimally toasty, nutty malty, slightly yeasty fruity and minimally floral as well as leafy hoppy, diluted hints of red and blue berries, a touch of corresponding shrubs. Watery texture, smooth and soft palate, medium, mildly prickly carbonation. Beautiful colour, nice fruity aspects - enjoyable.
