I would have called it a sweet stout. Lots of chocolate and some coffee. I do pick up lactose, and it works well in this beer. Smooth palate.

~12 oz draft at the Avery tasting room in Boulder, Colorado. The pour is a deep dark brown with a bit of a reddish hue. The head is a 1/2 inch tan. Nice lacing left on the glass. The aroma is fresh roast malt, soft roasted coffee notes, a bit of vanilla sweetness and a faint mineral. The taste is a great balance of the roast malt, the hint of coffee, and the soft vanilla sweetness. Really well integrated flavors for a lower ABV beer. The palate is light to medium bodied, soft lower carbonation, and a mineral roast finish. Nice stuff.
