This is the ultimate Weird Beard White whale. We took our black IPA and dry hopped it with roasted coconut, to make the limited edition fade To Black Coconut Edition, a sweeter more luxurious version of the original. But not happy with that, we decide to stick just 200 liters into a Heaven Hill barrel. The vanilla from the barrel plays perfectly with the slight sweetness from the coconut. This in one not to be missed.

Draft at BrewDog Shepherd’s Bush - London. Pours black-brown, oily, with a thick, tan foam head. The nose is rich with roasted malts, cocoa, burnt toffee and wood. Medium sweet flavor, smooth, with nice baking cocoa and earthy bitterness, some oily coconut. Medium bodied with fine carbonation and creamy texture. Moderately sweet on the finish but still balanced, with some alcohol kick, light burnt wood, restrained earthy bitterness, further toasted coconut and baking cocoa. Very nice. Good depth and balance.

Keg at BD on da Bush, 01/07/14. Black with a good sized tan head that dissipates but retains. Nose is dark malt, Ribena berries, bourbon notes, earthy hop, light roast, dark chocolate Bounty bar. Taste comprises cocount fudge, dark berry fruits, subtle bourbon, earthy hops, light roast. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, bourbon ribbons and a hoppy zest in the close. Solid stuff, the BA effect is detectable but well integrated and the CDA character retains well. Much better than the base coconut.

MTB at Brewdog, Shepherd Bush. Keg. Opaque black - brown beer, small pale tan head. Smooth airy palate, superfine carbonation. Very mild dark malts. Tangy fruity sweetness. Very mild bourbon. You have to look for the coconut, quite subtle. Light semi dry finish. It’s fine but I wanted more from this.

Keg at Brewdog Shepard?s bush at the weird beard launch. Aroma is nice sweet coconut milk, toasted coconut, dark choc roast and vanilla oak barrel. Lot of things going on in the nose but very balanced and rich. Opaque black viscous pour with a lasting thin light tan head. Flavour is nutty, desecrated coconut, toasted coconut, with a faint ashy roast. Hops are in the background but still noticeable, touch of pine. Palate is medium full bodied, lightly milky on the tongue with moderate carbonation. Flavours are so well integrated together, nothing overpowers the other. Very pleasing.
