The latest in our quest for this modern west coast style pale ale is Blind Side. A simple grist of Pilsner malt with a touch of wheat for head retention allows the hops to shine.

Featuring new hop variety Audacia from Indie Hops / Loughran and backed up by @freestyle Waimea and Citra we’re getting red currant, pomegranate, sweet orange peel, lemon zest and a touch of pine.

On tap at Patricks. Unclear yellow-orange with a small white head leaving lacing. Citrusy, perfumed aroma with pineapple and some pale malts. Some bitterness in the mouth but not much. Full to medium body and a soft carbonation. Medium length finish. Refreshing, bit too gentle. 250115

Can. A very mild haze on this gold beer, small white head. Airy palate, a very mild dryness, good fine minerally carbonation. Light pale malts, a smooth and mild creamy sweetness. Light crisp cooling pine into mild bright citrus. Back end is a little off the beaten track, I presume to this new Audacia hop. Floral red berries and a touch of proper floralness. A very small pinch of hop spice on the finish. Nice pale ale, refreshingly different.

[On tap at the Greyfriar, Reading.] A pale amber pour tight white head; initially the aroma reminds me of sweaty feet, but on second thoughts I get some leafy currants; there’s a firm malty body with some orange and red currant; and a hint of rye bread in the bitter citrus finish. Interesting, but I wouldn’t want a second.
