Here at Thornbridge we have a deep respect for British Brewing heritage and on hearing that the historic Burton Union system was being retired we decided we wanted to do our part in saving one of the sets. We installed it in Bakewell, and after getting up and running we brewed this batch of Jaipur using it, each pint is a true piece of history. Hops: Chinook, Centennial, Ahtanum, Simcoe, Columbus and Cascade.

A light yellow beer with a medium and white head. Aroma has lots of grapefruits, some tropical fruits, fresh. Taste of biscuity malts, some fruits, citrusfruits, lots of grapefruits. Medium bitterness, quite dry taste. Medium bodied, smooth carbonation, easy to enjoy. Quite dry and bitter, sophisticated, grapefruity IPA. Should be taste together with normal Jaipur to find out differencies.

Bottle picked up from Beyond Beer webshop, Hamburg delivered in 24 hours, as ever fantastic service. Had this sat out in the garden Sunday 10th August 2025 cooking pizza in the pizza/wood oven, weather glorious, listening to Antony Szmierek - Service Station at the end of the Universe. We had this in a side by side with a regular Jaipur. This pours very similar in appearance, light/mid gold, large white head, I couldn't get it all in the glass that I had however if I had of done I suspect that there would be a very slight haze. This has all of the hallmarks of the classic 'regular' Jaipur, however it is softer in the mouth, more subtle, more rounded and the hoppiness and bitterness are a slower at revealing themselves, however when they do it is lovely, it is very interesting to do a direct comparison, I forgot how instant the regular version is. This still has a great bitterness, it is wonderfully hoppy, it is just more gentle.

* Just gone back to read my review of regular Jaipur, which we had at our beer festival in Merton in July 2006 19 years ago!, 19 YEARS!!!, without realising I also gave it 8.4 , interestingly it was also cask, I am intrigued that the cask v keg/canned/bottle version are not split, because I am sure there would be a difference.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours golden amber with a small scummy off-white head and excellent lacing. The aroma has plenty of bitter hops and just a trace of yeast. In the mouth, sweetness and bitterness arm wrestle for supremacy, with the bitter hops eventually winning out. Plenty of other flavours come through too after a while – spice, ginger, yeast orange peel and herbs. Finish is very strongly bitter – but not overwhelming. This is excellent – an old favourite with just a little extra depth added by the Burton Union.

Loose white head left a froth on a well carbonated unclear pale golden coloured body.
Typical Jaipur aroma with a touch of yeast.
Medium bodied, foamy & cloying.
Cereal, yeast, bitter & grapefruit tastes with a bitter finish.
Would like to try on Cask.

Cask. Thornbridge. Perfect nick, obvs. Lightly hazed pale gold. Fully lacing, lasting, dense tight white foam. Looks boss. Nose has light bready yeasty notes. Clean grain. Orange peel. Soft herbal hop. Taste has some sweetness up front with a mineraly herbal citrus pith bitterness. Lean and clean. Fine carbonation. Lengthy bitterness to finish.
