A dark and powerful brew named after the Wolf of Badennoch, infamous for burning down Elgin cathedral in 1390. Enjoy by a roaring fire!

Dark brown, rich burnt toffee aroma - quite appetizing. Fairly strong-tasting with complex dark malts, rich sugars, complex dark caramelized things like the top of creme brulee. One of the few Scottish Ales Iβve ever had in Scotland.

Sample 50cl bottle from Al of the brewery. Appearance - dark brown to black with a reddish hue at the sides. Nose - sweet toffee, some biscuits. No nuts as far as I can see. Taste - more of the same and there is a nuttiness kicking in just before the end. Palate - medium bodied with a fairly thick texture and a slightly cloying but reasonably enjoyable finish. Overall - would like it to be a little fresher than this as it lacks drinkability.

Cask at Number 27, Inverness, 19/10/13. Mahogony brown with a good sized light beige head. Nose is dark fruits, spice, bready malt, fruit cake. Taste comprises fruit cake mix, dates, light spice, dates, raisens, toffee, yeasty notes - Belgian feel to them. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth on the palate with a fruity spicey tang in the finish. Decent stuff, I was thinking more a Belgian style wise!?

Bottled. Hazy copper colour, mid sized head. Roasty and fruity. Mid sweet with full body and soft mouthfeel. Mellow flavours of chocolate and a shiff of smoke licorice. Long balanced bitter finish. Rich and harmonious.

April 2013 original rate. Bottle from Deeside Drink Emporium. It pours deep ruby with a small beige head. The nose is wood, earth, caramel, dark fruit and dried berry. The taste is dark fruit, faint berry, vinous, light jam, wood, earth, caramel, light astringency, some bitterness and touch of alcohol with a dry finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Good depth of flavour and drinks pretty damn smoothly. 3.7. Drank it many times since. Good condition on cask this is brilliant. Great depth of flavour. Great depth of malt action. 3.9

2nd rate @ Skerry Brae [310113]...this is really good, super fruity dark malts, so smooth and the abv is so so so well hidden. 3.8 > 3.9 ... Iβd love to taste their take on a stout or Black IPA....
Cask @ Skerry Brae, Lossiemouth 130113
Dark chestnut brown, clear, dense off white head good lacing
Aroma of caramel malts, soft dark malts, soft dark fruits
Taste of dark sweetish malts, dark fruits, raisins, hint of liquorice, dab of blackcurrant, nice dark juicy fruit malts, touch of jam, some bitter hops in background, no alcohol
Palae - Medium body, smooth, good mouth feel, fairly sweet palate. Finish as main flavour, fruity dark malts in the linger with a hint of roasted malt
Overall - A distinctive flavour in this beer - itβs very nice
