Bottle at home in London - picked up at Kris Wines a few years back. Well, this beer has really come into its own. When fresh, I’ve found these WB barrel-aged DIPAs to be a bit rough; however, with two years of age the edge has certainly softened. The beer pours mostly clear, rich orange-gold with a staunch, lasting frothy off-white head. The aroma holds a lot of ripe and dried citrus, some lightly toasted wood, pepper, oak, orange peel, pine. Medium sweet flavour with moderate piney bitterness, some caramel, rich bready malts, more ripe citrus, suggestions of melon and mango, orange, a little marmalade, woody dryness. Full bodied with average to lively carbonation and massaging texture. Warming on the finish, fairly resinous, with notes of graham crackers, toasted malts, ripe orange, other jammy citrus, hints of berries, oily pine, drying wood, bitter grass. The aftertaste has notes of melon and tangerine. Wow, this beer is a lot of fun. There’s no doubt that it’s a punchy beast, but there’s a lot of character here, and it is now immensely drinkable. Great stuff.

Bottle from Chester Beer & Wine. Hazy orange pour with a meek white head. Good fruity nose of the tropical and citrus variety in tandem with hop and booze notes. Sweetish flavour along similar lines to the beak with some subtle bourbon hints. Enjoyable enough wee drop. if a tad boozy. Nibbling on the toes of the higher echelons of quality.

Keg at Brewdog Shepard?s bush at the weird beard launch. Aroma is varnish, solvent and orange peel. Nose also has some caramel. Rich clouded red orange coloured pour with a thin off white head. Flavour is berry, citrus, grapefruit hop, assertive clean bitterness. Touch of sweetness from the caramel malts. Pretty well balanced. Warming alcohol in the finish. Palate is medium full with fine carbonation. Spicy tingling hop finish.

330mL bottle, pours a cloudy opaque dark orange with a small white head. Aroma smells like resinous hops, bourbon barrels, and woody notes. Flavour is well-balanced, incorporating the bourbon very well, with resinous hops and woody notes. Still tastes like a IIPA with a boozy, barrel-heavy character. Solid stuff.

Very hazy dark amber beer, good off white head. Palate is smooth and slightly soft. Mild fine carbonation. Tangy jammy fruits nicely balanced with malt cream, bourbon and a whisper of vanilla. Finishes smooth and semi dry with a little bitterness and spice coming through. Very nice indeed. Would love to see a dry hopped version.

Bottle at Fastelavn Smagning 2014 @ J&C’s beer palace, Jutland 28/02/14, acquired from BD Camden. Hazed orange amber with a good sized off white head. Nose is punchy hops, light mango, spice, boozey tones, subtle bourbon waftings. Taste comprises earthy hops, mineral bite, punchy tropicals, orange pithdom. Medium + bodiment, fine carbonation, semi drying close with light boozey notes. Decent DIPA if a touch hot in places.
