From tap at Gigantic Brewing, Portland. Aroma is dark roasted malt, soft fruity notes, chocolate, hint of yeast, some pine resin. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Body is medium. Only getting a hint of the Saison yeast character, it’s more like a very soft fruity hop Stout. Starts out a bit modest but yields more character down the road.

Notes from November 2012 Sweaty bottle from LetsPour.com. Been spinning for a solid month now & haven't landed on a coupon. Throw me a bone LetsPour! Ommegang Chalice. Weak half inch of fleeting tan head. A greasy, dark brown on black color. Smells of burnt vanilla wafer cookies. Foliage. Coffee with a whole lot of brown sugar. Tastes of charred marshmallows & toast. Gritty/earthy dark chocolate, bitter plant parts, & ugly yeasties. Small, scotch-like note. Somehow it all remains mellow. Initial soft/silky texture turns dry & gritty once the prickly carbonation & crackery malt kick in. Medium light body. Lightly acidic. Tastes like a dirty brown ale to me. /shrugs

22 ounce bottle. Translucent dark brown color topped by a large rocky tan head. Interesting roasted malt aroma has notes of soy sauce and charcoal. First sip is sweet roasted malt, dark fruit, milk chocolate, herbal hops. Middle has notes of cola, cardamom, Hershey's chocolate syrup. Finish is chewy dark malt and piney, citrus hops.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a creamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, mushroom, dark red berries, earth, wood. Labeled as an Imperial Black Saison on the bottle. Hmmm. Don’t know about that. It’s unique, but definitely not saison-like.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver; 8% ABV
Black color with creamy beige head. Solid dark beer, with strong chocolate and malt flavor, not ashy, with mild earthy character that is possibly from the "Saison" yeast.
Round beer, well constructed, very pleasant.

Dark brown. Thin head. Sweet...toffeeish depth is nice. Has a really soft body. Not much saison to this. Good black malts. A touch more in the way of dark fruits and you’d have a really good old ale.
