12 ounce bottle into tulip, best by Dec 2011. Pours orangish golden amber color with 1-2 fingers of a fairly dense light khaki head with good retention that reduces to a fairly thick lacing cap. A small bit of lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of dark fruits, candi sugar, banana, clove, spices, and a bit of alcohol. Decent and interesting aromas here, with good strength as well. Taste of lots of dark fruits, clove, banana, molasses, bread, and spices; with a bit of caramel and alcohol noticed on the finish. Fairly dry finish, but there are a bit of lingering notes of dark fruits, bread, molasses, and spices. Alcohol is slightly present in the taste, and there is a decent amount of warming on the finish. Medium carbonation and body with a bit of a creamy mouthfeel. Quite drinkable despite the alcohol presence as well. Overall, this is a solid saison that is like a wheat beer in some aspects.

Again, not up to the standards set by the looks of its Belgian brethren. Then again, the pour’s placidity might be a reflection of the name, Red Sky At Night. Who knows. But Saisons should look better. Smells like bubblegum, wheat, and hay. Sweetness, with extra sweet tacked on. And the taste goes right along; the dudes at Clipper City were not stingy with the candi sugar in this brew. Hits three candy notes: first Cherry Blow-Pops, then Banana Laffy Taffy, then Coconut Longboys. Complex? Yes. Good? Well.... (5/19/09)

Tap at BCTC. Pours cloudy orange with a mild, white head. Aroma holds some modestly tart citrus. Flavor is sweet and spicy with some pear, banana and bubblegum notes. Light in body with fine carbonation. Fruity, sweet finish, clean with light tartness. Very nice.

Bottle from Bruisin Ales. Pours orange tinge gold with a 2 finger foamy white head. Aromas of kandi, fruit and spice. Medium body with foamy carbonation. Flavor is kandi, citrus, yeast/spice and a little mushroom/earthy. Other than the kandi aroma it is just excellent, and I do not comprehend why this is rated so low. It drinks really nicely.

Bottle from a trade with StFun. Pours hazy dark golden color with white head. Aromas of bread dough and spices. Doughy flavor with mild spices and some fruitiness. Kind of a bland saison to me. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Thanks Josh.

Draught at Birreria Paradiso. Hazy straw colored. Aroma of freshly mown grass. Light spice toward the middle, balanced bitter finish. Nice example of the style.

Location: Not my first trial of this one, but the rating is from a 12 oz bottle from Gilly's, 7/25/09

Aroma: Sugar, yeast, spice, fruit, clove
Appearance: Mostly clear yellow-orange color, thin white head
Flavor: Malty sweetness, light spice, hops in the finish
Palate: Light to medium body
Overall Impression: A decent beer, I didn't get a ton out of this beer, but it was certainly passable.

Pours clear gold into a tulip. Bright white head quickly recedes leaving no lacing to hug rim. Sour yeast and funk aromas. Dry and sharp with sour/sweet clove and yeast. Lasting honeyed pepper finish.

I normally shy away from Clipper City brews, but I can’t pass up a new saison, no matter who makes it - this has quite a bit of wheat malt for the style, but it’s fairly good - semi-sweet honey, tangerine, other tangy citrus character, spicy and fruity belgian yeast character - a bit of phenolic quality through the middle - sweetness makes way for potent spiciness, peppery character, a dash of hops - the finish is a bit much, making it less refreshing than a saison ought to be, but this is decent.
