A sailor’s delight, our Belgian-style Saison ale is made with imported yeast, candi sucre, and wheat malt. Intensely spicy and refreshingly fruity!

Pours a clear gold color with bright white head. Early on I smell just sweet sugary malts and a hint of wheat. As the beer warmed the aroma picked up subtle fruity notes. The taste starts off with wheat and sugary sugarness and really not all that farmhouse like. When the beer warmed well above frig temps I started to notice some fruits like banana mixed with sweet apple. Finally when the beer was at room temperature some nice yeasty notes surfaced that merely hinted to the style. Too little too late though.

Thanks to Ron, on tap at the Vintage Estates. Mild perfumy flowery smell. Ubiquitous pale yellow american beer color. A few stream of carbonation. Head is white and fades to a froth. Taste reminds me of a more refined belgian. Easy to drink, the flavor is well behaved, you’d never know initially that this is 8%. Thin sheer lacing. No hop bitterness. Finish is a refrain of smooth complexity. Overall a nice fun to drink saison.

Bottle. Light musty/pepper aroma. Clear medium yellow color with small head. Musty dry flavor initially followed by a sweet red cherry and light peach flavor. The dry mustiness lasts long after swallowing. Not quite as complex as its Belgian brothers but still very nice.

Sample at Brew Kettle: Pours a clear orange-gold color with a thin white head that has decent retention. Thin, spotty lacing. Aroma of spices (mostly ginger) and yeast, plus a healthy dose of fruit. Light-bodied and crisp with zesty citrus, wheat and yeast flavors. The finish is tingly on the tongue with a lasting spice finish. I ended up enjoying this one.

Looks like an american pils... golden color, effervescent, light head. Aromas are weak-of honey and grass. Flavor picks up honey-like sweetness and runs with it. Not much else going on. Maybe a little banana/cloves if you’re feeling generous and searching for something. I find it a little hard to believe that there is 8% ABV here, but that may be the most redeeming quality of an otherwise mediocre offering.

bottle - Pours golden and clear with fine bubbles and a thin head. The aroma is of yeast, malt, and maybe a hint of flowers. The flavor is mildly sweet with very little hops presence. There’s yeast and hint of fruit. The body is moderately thick and lively on the tongue. I wouldn’t have guessed this is 8% ABV. It’s not a great brew, but it’s pretty good. Rerate from tap - Golden pour, spicy Belgian yeast aroma with coriander and banana. Sweet, softly carbonated, medium body, sweeter than most saisons, IMO. Rating nearly identical as before. 7/3/7/3/14

Golden. Aroma of spice and fruit. Flavor is less intense, and I’m glad for it. Sweet and spice. I was a little afraid before I took a sip, and I am suprised that it’s better than I thought it would be.

Bottled. "Best by" notch at April 2005. Nice bright gold color under a thin fizzy head. Pleasant beery, slighty tart smell, perhaps a tad of skunk from its age. Bottle-conditioned, and pouring kicked up a bit of dead yeast. Still, it’s spritzy, with lemon and cherry, and just a touch of cinnamon and clove. A tad alcoholic with post-bottling fermentation. Nice light Pils malts, a very pretty pour. Despite its age, it shows and tastes very nicely.
