Bottle from the Boise Co-Op... maybe it was Brewer’s Haven (it’s been in the beer fridge for a couple months). Had on eclipse day, went light beer then dark... out of sheer nerdiness. Dark dark brown pour with a thick finger of creamy brown head. Aroma is huge with roast and sweet chocolate malts. Lots of sweet chocolate flavors with a deep roast and oatmeal creaminess. A little bittersweet in the end. Really struck a chord with me as an excellent example of a classic stout. Quite nice overall.

Dark brown color. Some roasted malts and some chocolate, moderately smooth, well made regular Stout.

355ml bottle at Brian’s office. Pours a dark brown with beige head. Aroma is roasted malt and some fruity notes. Similar taste. An ok stuff.

Dark brown. Thin head. The aroma is dark chocolate and woody hops. On the palate, it’s a bit thin, with a lot of bitterness. This comes from both dark malt, which lends a bit of sourness, with a fair bit of dark chocolate bitterness and a big pile of hops.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a near pitch black color with a medium beige head. A pleasant roasty nose, coffee. Rich, coffee, roast, vanilla, some creamy mocha. Really surprised by this, 6% isn’t small, but the flavor here is huge. Maybe a bit unbalanced toward sweetness, but that is fine. Lovely bitter roast finish. Great!

Draft pour pint at Black Bottle. Thick, jet black pour with a tan foam head. A robust, roasted malt aroma. Creamy body, rich and thick chocolate flavor, a slight smoke, roasted flavor. Creamy. Standard "regular" stout, but exceptional for what it is. Easy drinking, great flavor in a stout. Very nice.

Sample at the brewpub. Brown-black color with a medium thin tan head that recedes steadily to a dense film. Small patches of lace. Roast malt, coffee and chocolate in the nose. Light to medium body with a roasty coffee and malt character, with touches of anise and chocolate in the background. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.
