Dark brown. Thin head. The aroma is accented towards caramel and liquorice. The taste is somewhat toffeeish. Very full body, with only light sweetness. Has the flavours of a good dark mild, but in a strong American porter body. If the yeast wasn’t so clean, this would make a good English strong ale.

Cask at the Grove, Huddersfield. From cask at the brewpub. Pretty much black looks with a minimal beige head. Nose had roast malts and some fresh slightly peppery hop. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Taste department was bang on the money, with the right amount of roast mingled with some nice chocolate, fruit and slightly smoky notes. Dried out tidily towards the finish. A really good porter.

Cask gravity at Pigs Ear 2008. Black, ruby edges, thin tan head. Rather a lovely beer, good choc, good depth of flavour, excellent mouthfeel. Some spice on aroma. Bit oily, but good espresso coffee bitter choc. Really bitter. Good beer. Grainy
