Clear dark amber, small offwhite head. Aroma has caramel malt, some dried fruit, notes of hops and anise later on. Similar flavour with ok alcohol warmth.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Pours an almost clear dark amber with a dense and lacing beige head with good retention. Lovely nutty, caramellish aroma - biscuity - your typical US Barley Wine. Rich, malty body - tons of caramel with just enough bittering hops to avoid anything getting cloying. Some warming late alcohol. A Barley Wine just the way I like them. 080715

Review from Notes, enjoyed May 2011
Pours a deep reddish copper color with a slightly dirty beige head that dissipates slowly to a ring on top. The smell is quite sweet, it reminds me more of an old ale than an American barley wine. Caramel, toffee, prunes, dates, cherries, slight bit of resin and a hint of alcohol in there. Thereβs an almost non existent hop aroma, maybe its an English barleywine? Taste is sweet and fruity. Caramel covered cherries mixed in some toffee, but add a bit of a hop bite. Lingering sweetness in the finish with a little bit of alcohol heat. Sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel, light level of carbonation and a relatively thick body. As an old ale or English barleywine I really enjoyed this, as an American barleywine it misses the mark. Nice sipper, great flavors and aroma, I might have to check out some more brews from Mendocino.

Bottle. A- Caramel, red wine, dark fruits, sweet. A- Red brown color, hazy liquid, tan head. T- Licorice, cherry, red wine, dark fruits. P- Full Body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish. O- A super good Barleywine. Lots of fruity flavors and some nice spice from the anise tones. Very smooth and at 11% the alcohol is hardly noticeable at all. Iβd like to try this with a year or so of age on it. A solid brew all around.

355 ml bottle. Clear amber body with a nice, dense off-white head. Aroma is basically caramel malt and dry fruit. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, dry fruit and medium bitterness, some alkohol. Full body and sweet aftertaste with a slightly harsh bitterness after a while. Drinkable but not very exciting.

Bottle, 12oz. It pours a dense, finger-thick beige head over an almost clear dark amber to light brown body. The aroma is mostly malty, quite bready, with some caramel and roasted malts. Prunes and pine cones. The flavor has a nice bitterness, as well as pine cones. Some alcohol flavor and warmth. Full body with a soft carbonation. Bitter, malty finish with a fruity touch. Nothing impressive going on here, itβs too alcoholic and also slighlty boring. 131231
