Brewed with flavorful hops and seductive malt, our Newcastle Winter IPA hearkens back to the original India Pale Ale recipes of the 1700s. A balanced body, warm mouth-feel, and long, bittersweet finish make it the perfect beer for the season. It's zesty yet subtle, strong yet creamy. If only winter could last just a wee bit longer.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a dark rust orange with minimal head. Aroma of light grassy hops and lots of caramel. Taste is light bitter. Burnt caramel and grassy hops. Light bodied with a very slick texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not too bad. Very drinkable, but nothing super special.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper with medium creamy off white head. The aroma is a strong bready malt and caramel. Thin mouthfeel with strong raisin malt and caramel with metallic finish. A decent ESB from Newcastle.

Bottle from Tesco. Clear pale brown colour thick cream head. Syrup malt aroma. Bit of biscuit. Touch of some vague hop on the finish. It’s like the Nocturnal, just very good as a beer, but this one is just slightly better. Not great.

Well I expected this to be terrible, not that I would let any such bias affect my rating! But it wasn’t terrible. That’s not to say it was good. Mostly a light grassy leafy hop nose, slight pepper to the flavors. Hops overall very restrained, mostly showing up as a light bitterness to the finish. Otherwise smooth bready malts.

A bland aroma a touch of malt and the faintest, and I mean faintest hint of caramel. The appearance is a light amber. Bland. I found little of note in the flavours. A slight, very slight hint of nut and caramel. There was nothing hoppy in it at all. Very little carbonation. Overall a disgracefully poor beer, it has been a long time since I have given up half way and poured a drink down the sink.

Clear amber with a thin, frothy head. There’s something hoppy in the aroma but there’s also something of burnt fruit about it, oddly. Doesn’t really seem much like an IPA and I don’t get much hop in the taste. The overall effect is pretty bland to be honest.

Pours a brilliantly clear deep copper color with a huge fluffy white head that persists for a while before leaving a moderate amount of sticky lace on the sides of the glass. Smells of caramel and toffee with a fair bit of earthy hops and hints of butterscotch, mineral water and sulfur. The flavor is sweet with caramel, butterscotch, and brown sugar with a hint of chocolate. There’s a light bit of earthy hops, but IPA is a real stretch here. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Not a bad English pale/brown ale, I enjoyed drinking it, but it takes some huge balls to call this an IPA.
