Brewed with flavorful hops and seductive malt, our Newcastle Winter IPA hearkens back to the original India Pale Ale recipes of the 1700s. A balanced body, warm mouth-feel, and long, bittersweet finish make it the perfect beer for the season. It's zesty yet subtle, strong yet creamy. If only winter could last just a wee bit longer.

355ml bottle from Morrisons. Copper coloured with a ring of translucent head; malty aroma; rather stewed malty flavour, with a sweet toffee finish. How could anyone label such a malty beer as an IPA?

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours clear copper with a slight beige head that left quickly. Aroma is floral/herb with a caramel backing. Suggests cola sort of. Med body. Flavor is odd. There’s a veg/herb hop thing. Malt backing. Suggests an insecticide aroma - the kind made from flowers*. It’s not terrible, but I’ve never had anything like it. Unique flavors fer sure. (*The pyrethrins are a pair of natural organic compounds normally derived from Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium)

Bottle. Body is a crystal clear light amber/deep gold with a soapy head and aromas of skunky hops. Flavor is mildly sweet with some a skunky hops and detergent soap. This is bad stuff. Bad. A total disappointment.

355ml bottle. Copper amber colour, off-white head with malt, toffee, caramel aroma. Taste is caramel, malty, light bitterness, smooth medium body. OK but not an IPA.

Pour is a clear amber with a small white head. Aroma is of earthy malt and toffee. Flavor is again more malt with some toffee and almost a roasted nut. More ESB than IPA as I can’t pick up any hop profile.

Bottle. Toffee malt and orange peel aroma. Amber with moderate head. Lightly sweet toffee malt and moderately bitter orange peel hops flavor. Light metallic aftertaste. Not bad but not great.

12 ounce bottle. Pours an orange copper color with a large foamy beige head. Light bready malt nose. Zesty sweet caramel malt flavor with a subtle herbal hop finish. Rather bland and certainly not up to character for an IPA.

33cl bottle. Pours a honey colour with a nicely proportioned head. The nose has butterscotch and a little malt. The taste has toffee, some grassiness and then more sweetness. The palate is medium bodied and tangy and cloying in the texture and then it finishes quite abruptly. Overall, pretty uninspiring.
