2008 maroon wax bottle thanks to BA: billschmeinke. Pours with a deep black body and a small brown foam head that slowly fades. The body leaves tons of alcohol legs on the side of the glass. Aromas are hugely vinous, raisins, plums, cinnamon, barrel, milk chocolate, prunes and vanillas. Flavors are extremely smooth, creamy. Dates, dark fruits, licorice, cinnamon toast crunch cereal, raisins, barrel, light autolysis (on the back end, which contributes a light salinity). Some maple. Very well hidden alcohol. Creamy with very light carbonation.

Bottle (2007) Pours a very dark brown with a thin brown head. Aroma is intoxicating at first, a soft and sweet blend of bourbon, malty sweets, and chocolate. Very smooth and balanced. Silky mouthful with a little bourbon sting at first, followed by a smoother and more mellow bourbon, malty, chocolate, espresso blend. Just a little bittersweetness in the end. Warming. Not as smooth and intoxicating as the aroma, but still nice. The longer I sip, the more I ponder… I want this to be great and it has the potential to be great, but the foundation is just not there. A wonderful barrel presence and oh so smooth, but I think the base beer must not be all that exciting. Don’t get me wrong, this is a very good beer, but with this great of a barrel aged treatment I was expecting much more. Falls somewhere in the realm of very good and just a stone’s throw short of excellent.

Sampled from the bottle at the 2010 March Metro Detroit tasting. Poured black with a minimal head. Aroma had a great balance of both dark and sweeter malts with a slight undertone of bourbon. The bourbon was a bit more present on the tongue towards the finish but the flavor starts with sweet grain and chocolate notes.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thick almost black head. The aroma has notes of malt - sweet as well as roasted, combined with notes of soy sauce. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of soy sauce, roasted malt, and caramel, leading to a dry alcoholic finish where the soy sauce note lingers. Thanks MadsBerg for sharing.

Big thanks to GodOfThunder for the share AGAIN!! Pours a nice looking dark void with dark brown edges with thin tan head and a bit of stain on the side of the drinking vessel. The aroma hits first with dark chocolate and then some malt roastiness before booze and oak fill in behind. The taste is dark chocolate, malt roastiness, booze, a bit of oak and solid bourbon. This is pretty darn smooth and tasty.

thanks to godofthunder for opening this one. pours of the darkest black with no head. 2007 bottle aroma had lots of bourbon and notes of chocolate, oak barrel comes out nicely. taste, bourbon written all over it and just pure goodness to the palate. Roasted malts with chocolate, dark fruits and plenty of bourbon for a nice warming palate. outstanding beer!
