Inspired by the ultimate beer celebration and crafted in the classic Märzen-style, Summit Oktoberfest is the perfect fall beer. Full in body thanks to a blend of European hops and Moravian 37 malts, it starts right with toffee flavors and finishes clean and crisp like the autumn air.

Bottle from Archer Liquors. Reddish copper color with an ephemeral whiteish head. Light caramel aroma. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is caramel with a very light hop component. Finishes sort of sweetish, though there is a little bitter. Good for a lager.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a medium sized head and sweet caramel aromas. Flavor is thick and sweet caramel malt with maple syrup. It’s borderline cloying and as it warms it gets more obnoxious.

This marzen poured a copper colour with a white rocky head. To the nose there was scents of ripe fruit, raisins, yeast, hopps and a hint of lemon. First taste was smooth and thick with flavours of allspice, nuts, hopps and raisins. The finish had a little bitter / sweet flavour. Pretty good.

Bottled (thanks drewbeerme!). Golden colour, beige small head. Aroma is hops hops, some caramel malts and a bit earthyness. Flavour is very much the same. Wellbalanced, but not the most interesting brew.

Amber color, small head. Bready, ryeish nose. A bit caramelly and malty with American hops. Half a märzen, half an APA. Slightly sugary aftertaste.

Bready rising yeast aroma. In the glass the aroma becomes more volatile. A little darker than the ubiquitous pale yellow american lager. Has an orange tinge to it. First taste impression is a little more bitter than I care for in a marzen. I wanted to say that it has a definite alky bite to it but now I see the level is listed as near 8%. Probably one of the most strong fest beers I’ve ever tasted. Not sure if I would call this smooth or not, it’s a little in your face. Needs a few manners. Has some below average carbonation. Cannot compete with Hacker, Schell or Stoudt’s Octoberfests. Just a little below the enjoyability of Great Lakes, Harpoon and Atwater Octoberfests. Will not buy again. Very low on the enjoyability scale. Leaves an unrefined alky malt bite that will not go away soon enough.

Standard american style oktoberfest, featuring mostly crystal malt. Curious citrus aroma, but not seemimingly from hops, but perhaps of fermentation. Lemon and orange. Muddled amber color, smallish head. Clean caramelized flavor, somewhat earthy and leafy with the hops, small rising bitterness in the finish.

Fully clear red-ambr; flimsy yellowish head. Bready, malr syrup nose, rather fast gone. There’s ambrée and other malts, for sure, but the hopbite is instantly and lasting. Way more hoppy than any German Märzen, and it ain’t Hallertau Mittelfrüh neither, it seems. Bitter cookie? Medium bodied, some malt stickiness. OK, not great.

This is a passable Oktoberfest from Summit. Bright copper-orange color with a miniscule light tan head. Thin lacing as well. Sweet caramel aroma. Light-bodied with a sweet character, containing malt, caramel and some fruit flavors. Kind of thin on all fronts though. The finish is the only place I could detect any hops. All in all this beer doesn’t strive for much in the category but I couldn’t find too much to complain about.

Clear amber/copper body, thin off-white head. Aroma of corn and corn husks, grainy and reminiscent of malt liquor. Flavor is sweet, almost over-the-top, with underlying biscuit and grassy hops. Has a rather sharp, rough mouthfeel, as if some of the grain husks were thrown in the fermenter. You know, some of these Oktoberfests are too close to malt liquors for my tastes.
