The Single Hop Series allows us to showcase our creative side within the constraint of using a single hop.

The third in our Single Hop Series has its roots in an award winning homebrew called Roaring Queen. Historically the Belgians are not known for beers with loads of New World hops aroma, but who are we to bow down to brewing tradition when we don’t need to? The citrusy Amarillo plays well with the Belgian yeast notes, and the malt is just enough to carry the flavour combination off without getting in the way.

Aroma: Lime, hard candy, lychee and pine.

Appearance: Murky amber body with a medium off-white head that holds well. No visible carbonation.

Taste: Passionfruit, satsuma and a pronounced lime flavour (the Amarillo hop really is immense). Hint of sweet Belgian yeast with barely any note of the 7.5% ABV.

Palate: Medium to full body with an oily texture. Soft carbonation.

Overall: A really unusual, tasty beer. I love the balance between the sweet yeast and malt and the citrus hops. I’m not sure why it’s listed here as an American Pale Ale when the bottle says it’s a Belgian IPA.

I picked this up at Jacks, Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon 3rd August 2013 consumed in the main field at Fairports Cropredy Convention, Friday 09.08.13 Hazy orange in colour, with white filmy head. Soft in mouth, a little thick, but tremendously hoppy, I don’t think that I’ve had anything bad from Weird Beard yet. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8
