On tap @ Bailey’s Taproom, Portland, Sixth Anniversary Barrel Aged Fest. Hmm, dark sour is it? Well it does look kind of dark as it pours a dark red maroon with an airy head. Could this be something? Well, wow. Just, wow! The aroma is as balsamic vinegar and cherries, all nicely balanced and tart. As expected from a good sour. But wait, here’s more as dark sweet whiffs bourbon follows, making the dark obvious without ever really leaving the sour. Nice full body with no carbonation. Flavour is sour with balsamic vinegar, oak barrels, fruit and cherries, as well as some very pleasant dark notes of wood. A tremendous brew, and a real eye opener into dark sours. Bring’em on!
